To prepare for this class please read Nurtured by Love, written by S. Suzuki and begin listening to Suzuki CD Book 1 for Violin or Piano.
Suzuki Performances: Suzuki Violin and Piano Students are scheduled for a Fall Concert, a Winter Concert, a Spring Concert, and a Solo Concert in May. All performances are mandatory.
Suzuki Violin Group Classes: All Gulf Coast Music
School Suzuki Violin students attend Monday Group Classes. Classes are held at the Unitarian Universalist Church when Lee County Public School is in session. Please speak to your private teacher if you are not sure which class to attend. Students must show proficiency through the piece listed for the next level group class to participate in that class. We recommend that the student first observe the class for several weeks before moving into that group. Review of pieces is the key to a smooth transition into the next class. Many students play in two classes with no extra fee until they are comfortable moving into the next group class. Advanced students are always welcome to play in less advanced groups. Group class is a large and important part of Suzuki music education. It teaches many things that private lessons and orchestra do not teach. Our group classes are arranged so students can attend both group class and youth orchestra. Students and their siblings must be supervised at all times. Please plan to have drinks and snack outside Hobart Hall before or after your class.

Violin/Viola/Cello/Flute/Guitar Master Classes
Scheduled by our teachers during the year.
Solfege Course: sight singing for all instrumentalists
An introductory and intermediate course for musicians of all ages. The goal is to pick up a
piece of printed music and, using either Solfege syllables (the do- re- mi-),
or musical note letters or numbers, and be able to sing, at first sight, the
notes on the musical staff. This is a critical ability for string players,
particularly when they start moving into the upper positions on the
fingerboard. The focus is to develop the student's internal hearing.
Beginning with the major scale, students move to musical dictation--simple
rhythms at first, then later simple melodies. There is an additional fee for this course. All classes are listed on our
schedule page.
