GULF COAST MUSIC SCHOOL 2010 April NewsletterReminder: Relay for Life – Saturday, April 24 Be there by 9:30 am in your Red shirt and Khaki bottoms! The Lee County Sports Complex on Six Mile Cypress MAGIC MONDAY Chuck Grinnell, the music director at the Unitarian Universalist Church, is teaching a class on improvisation to both of our 4:15 violin group classes. This class is on Monday, May 3rd at 4:15 in the SANCTUARY. Bring your violins! The 3:45 violin group class is invited to stay and observe the class (after their regular group class). In preparation, he asked us to watch the following link http://www.ted.com/talks/evelyn_glennie_shows_how_to_listen.html about listening that was given by Evelyn Glennie, an international percussion soloist who is deaf. Also, you will want to be familiar with the following scales and arpeggios: C major, G major, A minor He also said that we should think about the following question, and be ready to answer it in some way, “What is the difference between the violin and cello ... then between a viola and cello.... then a guitar and cello? Be ready to explain the difference to me as if I were from some other place that didn't have any instruments and I have never heard an instrument play”. TRIP TO GERMANY Spring Break 2011 Rummage Sale for Fundraising Travel Expenses As many of you already know, our school has been invited to visit a music school in Germany. The families in Germany will host our families in their homes for our stay. For most of us, even without hotel expenses, to make this happen we must do fundraising. The travel expenses are about $1100. per person. That is an estimate for roundtrip airfare and train travel. To raise funds, the students and families of Gulf Coast Music School are planning a rummage sale onMay 15, 2010 from 8 am – 12:00 pm. The Pellegrino family has offered to host the sale at their house: 109 SW 13th Terrace, Cape Coral, FL 33991. This gives everyone more than two weeks to collect items from their friends and family to donate for the sale. You may bring your items (with sale prices marked) to the sale before 8:00 am on the morning of the sale. We need several parents to set up, stay and help during the sale, and several parents to pack up what does not sell (if anything!) and take it to a donation center after the sale. Please RSVP if you would like to participate to Keri Harty by April 27, 2010 at jkharty@embarqmail.com If any of you have ideas for fundraising, please share with us! |
