Welcome Back! And welcome to our new students! I hope you all had a wonderful summer. We had a great week of camp. Our students learned so much. The music was inspiring and the artwork was a lot of fun. Introducing the new O’Connor Violin Method, an American Classical approach to modern violin playing ranging from folk fiddling to jazz and classical to world music. As some of you already know, I just returned from the Mark O’Connor String Camp in New York City where I attended his first Teacher Training Class. I feel so lucky to have participated in the class. The teachers and students were top performers in their genre. I can’t wait to share this music with you! I met some great teachers from around the country. I’m working on putting together a weekend workshop with another music school, maybe from another state. I suggest we invite them here and host them first, and then we can visit them next. I will keep you updated on the progress of this project. GULF COAST MUSIC SHIRTS It’s time to order Gulf Coast Music School red shirts for the year. We wear these shirts with khaki bottoms for many of our concerts. Please email me at gulfcoastmusic@comcast.net to place your order. The size choices are Youth – Small, Medium, Large, Extra Large and Adult – Small, Medium, Large, Extra Large. The shirts are usually true to size. The price is $20. If you need a new shirt, please write a separate check with the shirt size on the memo line and include it in the envelope with your tuition payment. We usually order once a year. If your student has grown out of their shirt, please donate it to a smaller student. INSTRUMENTS If you need to move up a size, consider selling your smaller instrument to one of our students. We like to keep our good instruments in our program. INSTRUMENT FOR SALE $150 ~ ½ size violin, with bow and case. This is a great sounding used violin. Analiese moved up to the next size. Call Lisanne at 433-2604 SCHEDULE I have the preliminary schedule done. This includes private lessons and violin group dates. I am attaching it to this email so you do not have to wait until it’s posted on our website. Concert information will be added soon. Private lessons begin the week of August 24, 2009. The first violin group class day is Monday, August 31, 2009. TUITION This year we had to increase our tuition. The semester has also gone from 19 to 20 weeks of lessons. For violin, the group classes have increased from 15 to 16 group classes. You may pay the full amount due, you may make 2 equal payments dated 8/24/09 and 10/26/09, or you may divide your tuition into 4 equal payments. If you chose to make 4 payments, please send 4 equal checks dated 8/24/09, 9/28/09, 10/26/09, 11/30/09 before the semester begins. The checks will not be deposited until after the dates on the checks. The tuition is due before the first lesson of the semester, the week of August 24th. Your invoices will be sent out this week. SOLFEGE The Solfege Class was quite a success last year. Dr. Asya Teruni would like to continue this class. The tuition for this class is $20 per class with a 3 student minimum for each level class. The dates and times of these classes are TBA. Please email me to register for this class. COMMUNICATION Do you have a great picture for GCM advertising or our website? Please email it to me. I’m looking for a picture of one student and/or our group playing. I’m especially looking for a student who has been playing for a few years. Do we want a Facebook page? A blog? Please let me know. This is where we would share instrument information and post concert and rehearsal information. I will also be working on emailing the invoices this year.
Sincerely, Chris Hoffmann
