PURPOSE:
This camp was created
to give young musicians an
opportunity to learn beside accomplished
musicians from programs within and
outside of Southwest Florida. Through
concentrated lessons and classes,
the children gain motivation and
reinforcement to their regular school
year studies. The progress made
during camp propel the students
throughout the year.
ENROLLMENT:
in the Gulf Coast Music
Camp is open to students ages 4 and older,
from beginners to students studying
with a private teacher in one of the 10
Suzuki Volumes and beyond.
CAMP LOCATION:
Unitarian Universalist Church

DAILY SCHEDULE:
Classes will meet each weekday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Every student’s schedule will include:
Small Group: Groups of 5 - 10 students
assigned according to current piece.
Students play together and solo on new camp music and Suzuki pieces.
Large Ensemble: Groups of students in 2 adjoining levels work on Suzuki pieces and camp pieces learned in smaller groups.
New Tunes: Learn and read new pieces from diverse literature outside the Suzuki
books. Offering numerous parts of varying levels, the pieces will be used to combine groups in ensemble and whole group class.
Music Theory/History: Games and
worksheets will be used to teach students on appropriate age and music theory
levels, to include ear training, note
reading, and musical terms.
Whole Group: All students will meet for class at the end of the day to share what they have learned and worked on in their separate classes.
Enrichment: Daily, this will include
activities such as dance, drama, singing, crafts, outings, videos, or visitors, and a final concert Friday at 3:00. Parents and guests are invited and encouraged to
attend this performance.
Private Lesson: One 1/2 hour lesson will be scheduled with the assigned teacher. Teachers will go over current book pieces and music introduced at camp.
Piano Students: Accompaniment training by level may be included in your daily classes.
MEALS:
Students are required to supply their own lunches with a drink each day. A late morning snack will be provided daily.
HOUSING:
Local students should plan on
commuting or carpooling each day. Out of town participants may be housed with local host families who will be participating in the camp, or may call for hotel information. Local families, please indicate availability to host visitors on the
application form.
TUITION:
July 7 - 11, 2008 (5 Days) $370.
This fee covers all materials used, and any
miscellaneous expenses incurred during the camp.
No fee reductions or refunds are available for
partial attendance or missed days.
A limited number of partial fee waivers are
available. Scholarship award is determined by
financial need and teacher recommendation.
If you wish to sponsor another student either
individually or through a business, please
indicate on the application form.
Applications and non-refundable $50.00
application fees must be received by May 7, 2008.
A late registration fee of $30.00 will be assessed
after that date. Tuition balance will be due by
June 2, 2008.
PRETWINKLE BEGINNER CLASS
An introduction to violin will be available 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. each morning of camp,
for students ages 4 - 6. Parents are asked to stay, observe and take notes. There is a 5 student minimum enrollment to confirm this class. Beginner’s tuition is $170. To prepare for this class please read Nurtured by Love, written by S. Suzuki and begin daily listening to the Suzuki Volume 1 CD for Violin. Both are available at Cadence Music Store. These students are also invited to participate in our Friday 3:00 pm performance.
